First of all, delivery was the day after it was dispatched and 3 days earlier than estimated.
I initially installed the drive via an expresscard esata adapter. It showed up straight away in a Windows 7 environment under disc management. I then downloaded & installed the Seagate Disc Wizard. NB: It will not load if you do not have a Seagate drive attached.
Cloning the existing drive was an absolute doddle. It had already had a fresh W7 install and all the necessary updates. So there was only about 90Gb of data to copy over. This took around 15-20 minutes.
I then shut the laptop down and swapped the drives over. On reboot the laptop saw the new drive and subsequently required a reboot to continue installation.
As others have said the drive learns what your most used programmes are and puts these files (or part of the files onto the NAND) to allow a faster start up. I have rebooted the laptop over 10 times and the W7 boot time has not improved that much from the first boot time. It takes around 50 seconds to load the desktop. This is on an 8 year old Toshiba laptop.
Update: I re-installed the original HDD to double check boot times. It was taking around 120 seconds to display the desktop, so effectively less than half the time now. Well impressed. Changed to 5 stars as a result.
