Customer Review

Mork and Mindy is a truly great American comedy from the late 1970s that has great originality. The whole show is dependent on its main stars, Robin Williams as Mork and Pam Dawber as Mindy.

This was a series about a naïve alien called Mork who arrives on earth and makes friends with Mindy.
This basis for a comedy was not the first time it had been used. There had been a show called "My favourite Martian" fifteen years before Mork and Mindy. That series had an alien that the human names "Uncle Martin" who visits earth and befriends a human too, and the alien also had special powers such as telepathy, invisibility, move objects by pointing, talk to animals and had a antennae on his head. But this time Mork is much more zany and the series is more frenetic. Mork is less predictable than "Uncle Martin" had been.
Mork comes from planet Ork. This is "bleems and bleems away from earth". On Ork, Mork is considered odd because he has a sense of humour and when he had poked fun at "Orson", their leader, the Orkans sent him to our planet Earth as a punishment. Mork must send reports to Orson about the weird lifestyles of humans.
Mork arrives in a large eggshell like spacecraft near Boulder Colorado and is discovered by Mindy who works in her dad's music shop. Mindy finds Mork intriguing with his child like ways and his wonderful kindness. Mork then lives in the attic.

The series is very funny. Mork often talks gibberish, he does wacky things like sitting on his head or drinking with his finger. He struggles to understand earth ways and this leads to farcical misunderstandings.
Mork and Mindy were actually a spin off from the earlier comedy series "Happy Days" in which Mork had appeared.

There are other regular characters in the show such as the father of Mindy, Mr Bickley a crotchety neighbour and Exidor a UFO prophet who befriends Mork.

At the end of each episode he reports to Orson and as he finishes he twists both ears and signs off with the words "Nanu Nanu" which is Orkan for goodbye.

Robin Williams is perfect as Mork and he proves his talent in this original series. He creates a very special character and its interesting now to look back at the series that made him really famous. Mork is a really funny and zany character and the series is excellent.
This is a really good entertaining DVD set,
