Santa gave me this set for Xmas and, if the other discs in the series live up to the high standards of Disco Ladies I shall definitely be buying them.
This is an exemplary compilation, put together with loving care by people (principally Mr Pinks) who really know their stuff. The emphasis is, as you'd expect, on the golden era of the late '70s and early '80s. Most of the versions are the long (12" or LP) versions we originally heard on the dancefloor back in the day - and most of them would be difficult, if not impossible, to find these days. Mr Pinks has got the balance between well-known anthems and obscure gems just right and the decision to keep the tracks discrete, as opposed to mixing them all together, is a good one. The sound quality/mastering is superb too - the music sounds almost as good at home 30 years later as it did in the clubs!
The only slightly jarring note for me is the inclusion of Shep Pettibone's remix of Phyllis Nelson's "I Like You" but fortunately it's at the very end of disc 2 so doesn't spoil the mood too much.
Otherwise, wonderful stuff, bravo to all involved.
