This review is from: GP / Grievous Angel (Audio CD)
After his forays with The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Bros., country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons linked up with then-unknown singer Emmylou Harris and delivered these two extraordinary records. Well-selected cover versions ("Hearts On Fire", "Love Hurts") mingle brilliantly with Parsons originals such as "She", "$1000 Wedding", and the fragile, tremendous "A Song For You", his ode to the land he grew up on. Parsons' tag as the father of 'country-rock' (he preferred to call it 'Cosmic American Music') can be offputting but what the listener gets is a collection of astonishing songs performed by a man who knew both country and rock music as well as anyone of his time....
