I have been a Sondheim fan for years, unfortunately not all of his works are available via the UK so I have to go to the US to satisfy some of my needs. This DVD fulfills many of the requirements although it was made in 1992 and therefore does not cover later writings - how I wish other concerts were available including the celebration of his Birthday at the Albert Hall, London earlier this year. However, there is a lot to be thankful for here, particularly Bill Irwin's zany humour in his opening 'Evening Introduction' and later his duet with Karen Ziemba 'Sooner or Later' from "Dick Tracy". The number to die for is Dorothy Loudens mix of two songs, one from "Follies" and the other from "Company" - I can't stop playing it. Liza Minnelli is Liza Minnelli and all others contribute to the evenings affection for the composer. If disappoint has to be found it is with Glenn Close's version of 'Send In The Clowns' from "A Little Night Music", not a patch on Judy Dench at the Albert Hall. All in all a great disc that will provide hours of enjoyment. Make sure its in your collection.
