Your new fave band !!!,
This review is from: Turn Against This Land (Audio CD)
Once in a while, you hear an album that knocks you sideways and you wonder why you've only just discovered them. This album, for me, knocked me flat on my back 2 years ago, and i'm still there !!!. Having heard london bridge (track 1) on a compilation i thought it was a nice little track, checked the artist, then stored the info in my head for a rainy day, you know when your in the record shop and u have a tenner left, so you think "ah why not, i'll give it a go".
One day bout 6 months later i saw it in the library and thought "A-ha now i'll try it". 1 hour later and a bus ride home and lo and behold sheer blinding brilliance.
The little guitar echoes at the start of london bridge, think of that as the start of the rollercoaster, your slowly edging your way to the top, it's peaceful, calm (which is all you'll get til track 12) then cascading guitar......then ur off !!!
"I went and burnt my bridges at the weekend"
It's a loud album, the bitter lyrics are spat out with bile, venom and hate. I really don't want to say a lot about it now, for you to know whats coming would rob you of the experience i had.
Needless to say, you will hear it again after a 1st listen, repeatedly. Until, like me, you love this album and everytime you put it on, you're singing along with the same venom as the lead singer (johnny cooke).
Plus it'll leave you out of breath coz there's not that much space between the tracks.
Every track is vital, there's little bits of detail you won't catch on the 1st listen e.g. i only heard the donkey noise (on donkey obviously, track 3) on my 4th listen.
By the way, just so you know, i took it back to the library the very next day, after first buying my own copy.
Every music lover deserves an experience like i had with this album, hopefully you'll have that here too. It'll be the best few quid you ever spent !
As you read this DOGS are in the studio recording their 3rd album, you've come this far, bear your teeth, and join the pack !!!
