Customer Review

TOP 1000 REVIEWERon July 29, 2011
At times Hellboy can get a bit samey, basically he is virtually indestructible and smashes everything up. Accordingly stories featuring the other more vulnerable characters can be more intriguing. Abe Sapien, Roger the Golem and Liz Sherman are present, as well some new and semi familiar characters. It fits in well with the Hellboy continuity, taking place after Hellboy left the BPRD to go to Africa.

This is a real belter of an opener to the series, the art is not entirely to the Mignola style, but overall the script and art are strong. The team are disengaged, with Abe about to leave BPRD himself, but then they have to rescue Liz from a strange subterranean realm. There is plenty of office politics and interplay between the characters, something that is a real bonus, and adds considerably to the story.

On the strength of this the BPRD series could well rival Hellboy in terms of popularity.
