Not as funny as I remembered,

Twenty years ago, I was an ardent Mel Brooks fan; everything he did seemed to me to be incredibly funny. However, watching most of them now, they seem to induce nostalgia rather than laughter, and I can't really explain why. Is it that his humour has dated so badly - after all much humour does - or was it not really funny in the first place?
This film is a case in point. I remember watching on TV and rolling about. Watching it now, there are places that make you chuckle, but others that make you wince, they are so bad.
It is worth watching, but if you first wat he'd it in your youth, don't be surprised if you are left feeling a little disappointed.

I so agree - I found the same with Blazing Saddles.

Yes indeed Simon. A restoration onto Blu-ray would help, but I don't suppose it's likely to happen.
