Great quality Omni Mic,
This review is from: Samson CL8 Professional Microphone (Electronics)
I was looking for a good quality omni-directional microphone for a small home studio set up. I looked at other options before settling with the Samson CL8. The next best option was almost three times the price and when you're setting up a home studio for the first time, shelling out loads of your hard earned cash is a bit daunting. With the CL8 you get a super mic for the money and I would recommend it to anyone who, like me, is setting up for fun-recording/semi-pro at home or as part of a mobile studio. I tested the mic through a Mackie Onyx Black Jack A/I into Reaper on a Samsung laptop and the responce was great. A wee bit tinny/ringy at the top end but I was speaking into it from close range and, as this is something I would never do in a recording project, I'm happy that it captured a clean, warm sound at the lower frequencies. I would say the big advantage with the CL8, is the ability to switch from full omni to figure of 8, to cortoid settings; a feature not found on most products in the higher price band. You can also switch from 0 to +10 Db, if you need to give it some punch too. 4/5 stars because if you want a 5 star microphone, you'll be going with Shure, AKG or Neumann, lets be honest about it.
Cheap, Well made, great for entry level recording and small studios.
Well, if you're a professional, you'd maybe have one of these as back up but you'd probably be using something with a price tag that burns the retinas of most mortals.
