When you already have the original lodged in your head, cover versions can either fall embarassingly short of the mark in trying to emulate and therefore better the original, or are an eyebrow-raising & refreshingly different interpretation, sometimes to the point of arrogance. No-one tried to reinvent the wheel with this remake, but in a way that's what makes it so good. The power and depth of F&TM's music stands up for itself, and although this is basically a straight copy without some of the original twangy bits, this is one of those rare occasions where it works. It's damn good. F&TM have taken the original song and embraced it with a passion. I have both versions, this and Candy Statton's original, and both equally stand up for themselves. Superb.
