Having seen Green Wing before this, and completely adoring it, I had unrealistically high expectations of Campus. No, I don't think it's as good as Green Wing, but that doesn't mean it isn't great. There are a few similar characters in Campus and Green Wing - Matt Beer reminded me forcibly of Guy Secretan, and I thought Jonty was the Sue White of Campus - and I suppose that doesn't help its case, but I fell in love with Campus, it made me laugh, and it took me in. The characters were great (mostly) despite the similarities - I loved the different dimensions to Matt Beer's character (the Beer/Moffat storyline may be cliched, but the scenes with them are beautifully written), and I thought Flatpack was adorable. I completely bought the love triangle and the storylines, and the surrealism, while not always as spot on as Green Wing's, reminded me of it. And that is almost as good.
I think its unfair to compare Campus to the absolute epitome of comedy, Green Wing, because it will always fall short. Campus is, in its own right, a wonderful new comedy. And I want another series. A lot.
