Essential reading for the football widow,
This review is from: Exile In The Promised Land (Paperback)
I thought this was a book for my husband, but when he took a break from reading, I couldn't resist dipping in. And I was surprised by the addictive and entertaining nature of the read. Each chapter set the scene; defined the importance of each game, exposed the hopes and fears of the fans, built the tension before the game, and expressed the emotions after it. I've never really understood the passion of football, but this book has brought me a lot closer to it... I would say it is essential reading for the football widow. And as a woman, I loved the battles of conscience, where the chief aim of getting to the next away game was disguised in cunning plans of supportive fatherhood, such as visits to the Lowry Centre, Monkeyworld or Alton Towers. So clever!
