This review is from: Girl Soldier: A Story of Hope for Northern Uganda's Children (Paperback)
In an age where we are all bombarded with (and often instantly dismiss) tragedy and despair, it is so important to get to grips with the experiences of those who have actually lived through the pain. By reading Girl Soldier I was given the first hand account of one woman's experience of being abducted as a child by the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda, her grim existence within the LRA and her enduring hope in a God who never let her down. Alternate chapters were given over to historical, political and social perspectives, which I felt complemented the real-life account very well. I found the book difficult to read because, at times, I couldn't cope with the feelings of hopelessness I was left with. However, there is a God who cares and brings together ALL things for the good of those who love Him and sometimes we should experience the pain and hope in some small way ourselves in order to be prompted to do something about it.
