Time for Revenge?,
This review is from: Doctor Who: Darkstar Academy (Audio CD)
When the Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive at a 1950s Private School for boys, they are startled when the prefects wave Webley pistols at them. But this is nothing compared to what Amy finds in the grounds and the Doctor in a restricted area. And as for poor Rory? He ends up being chased by chitenous monsters when he comes to the aid of a pupil being chased by bullies.
Narrated by Alexander Armstrong, Darkstar Academy is a fast-paced story that fits in well with the 11th Doctor's on-screen adventures. Armstrong's performance is powerful and engaging, enhanced by a strong soundscape that manages to provide support to the story without being obtrusive. He avoids making too much of an attempt to impersonate the real cast, instead opting to provide a flavour of the voices. And Armstrong's voice is so well suited to this kind of material that I wish he would/could be used more often.
However, the story isnt perfect: the story is so full that the story positively races along. The sheer pace can get a little exhausting, but one can't help feeling that anything more leisurely would have significantly extended the overal runtime, probably onto two discs, something AudioGO seems to want to avoid.
Overall a good story, with an excellent narrator, recommended.
