First dip into the Jazz pool...,
This review is from: Go! (Audio CD)
I am not a life-long Jazz fan. Lately, though, I have ventured into this rather sectretive world of improvisation and personal expression and have been quite surprised at what I have found. I have been buying the Rudy Van Gelder editions of certain releases (for no particular reason other than the fact that the first one I bought was marvelous) and am starting to appreciate the appeal of Jazz. Dexter Gordon's "GO" is a wonderful album. I bought it because I appreciate Sax more than trumpet. This is, from a novices point of view, an album that can be played at any time, but in particular when you are trying to charm your better half. Joking aside, I have taken to listening to these RVG recordings even when I am working, and Dexter's "GO" is my favourite. Soulful, humourous, supplemented by gorgeous piano and percussion, I cannot recommend this cd highly enough.

John Smith says:
If you think the RVG editions are good, I implore you to seek out more "audiophile" editions. This album ("Go") has been remastered by the Analogue Productions label in true audiophile quality (i.e. zero compression and no falsely bright EQ) and will make you realise how much BETTER these fine jazz classics can sound than the RVG versions! Other audiophile labels to consider are DCC, XRCD and Audio Fidelity. All of these put the mass-produced RVG editions in the shade.
