A Bright Beginning,
This review is from: Goosebumps (Audio CD)
A delightful first showing from singer/songwriter Sabrina Piggott;
'Goosebumps' is her four-track debut EP and it presages a bright future.
Born in Ireland and transposed to the Dales of Yorkshire, Ms Piggott has
a voice which is both beautiful and beguiling; an instrument with a warm
melancholy quality which gives these four compositions a haunting twist.
Her soft accent and fragile tone , particularly on the striking title track
'Goosebumps', with its mournful cello accompaniment, brings Bjork to mind
a little despite the obvious stylistic differences. Her music has its roots
embedded deeply in traditional folk but her facility with words melody gives
history a satisfying twist. Her rendition of the lovely 'Let No Man Steal
Your Thyme' is especially enchanting. 'Smoke On The Water' shuffles along
nicely but the gorgeous 'When I Lie Here' steals the show with a stunningly
focused vocal performance set against a backdrop of skittering electronic beats.
This aperitif serves us well for now. I'm looking forward to the next course already.
