This review is from: Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar - Your Brain's Silent Killers (Paperback)
I always knew that processed foods, white flour and 'quick' carbs were not good for me. Quite frankly, anything that man messed with can't be too good for me. And I like his explanations for why this is so and what to substitute. But I have two things that are bothering me. One is that he said Vitamin D is a hormone. Well, not quite true. What we consider Vitamin D (in fish and in supplements) is a precursor to the hormone. I know this is stupid, but the way he wrote it made it an error and that bothers me. Secondly, there are several books out there by just as 'successful US physicians' such as Joel Fuhrman, which contradict some of the information in this book. Perlmutter advises using coconut oil. Furhman says all oils are bad, especially fully saturated ones. That bothers me. Which one is right? For now, I will cut out all processed carbs. But I can't say I will follow ALL his advice, as I'm not sure he's right, well exactly right.
