This review is from: Les Malheurs de Sophie (French Edition) (Kindle Edition)
This is the story a young Sophie, a 3-4 year old little girl from an affluent family with a tedency to do the opposite of what her mother has told her to do, and who always eventually gets in trouble for it. Altough its original audience was young children, this 19th century book can be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in the society it portrays. It is written in fairly simple language for a French book, but will require a good vocabulary/dictionary from a British reader.

Ms. Riane Revah says:
This was my very favourite book a a child ... I was born in Paris, but moved to the UK when I was three and a half. This book was a link to everything I loved - my first language, French; the (anti) heroine, who constantly gets up to mischief; the wonderful illustrations (my book had line drawings). very fond memories.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have an illustrated version, but I too discovered it in my early childhood, having grown up in France :) It's nice to know that there is someone in the UK who shares one's love of la Comtesse de Ségur :)
