Some of these reviews are completely out of touch

Having owned nearly all variants of the kindle I am amazed at how under appreciated it is reading the low ratings on here.
Part of the problem I believe is the younger generation are given powerful smartphones and compare the two which seems unfair.
The kindle is a product designed for reading and reading only.
It serves this purpose wonderfully and I don't believe there is a better ebook reader out there that can offer the huge variety of books like the amazon kindle can.
You are better off buying the kids version for kids because of the easy no worry free warranty, no ads, double storage space plus the 1 year unlimited access to free content.
People have stated it's slow to use and the interface is not easy to use. I disagree and once you know what technology powers the kindle you will know they have done a fantastic job in utilising the device to the best of its capabilities.
Is the kindle slow?
Yes, compared to a smartphone or tablet. It's much slower.
Is it slow for an ebook reader?
Definitely not. The technology behind the display is a work of art in itself, it is perfect for an eBook due to its clarity and it's low use of power.
This does not house a media like display with huge brightness and multi colours. It's a simple display and perfect for reading. You won't get headaches or any ill effects from blue light.
Only buy this kindle if your children enjoy reading.
If they don't then it's simply a waste of money and you probably will suffer with buyer's remorse.
But if your kid/s love to read, ignore all the ignorant comments on here they are unjustified and I don't know how anyone can complain about such a great little device.
As with any new gadget, there is a small learning curve and the kindle has limited processing power so won't have drop down menus or hold functions, the menu UI is based on simple clicks to navigate around.
Yes you will need to spend a few minutes learning how to use it but this is nothing out of the ordinary.
Here are a list of positives using a kindle:
-More space in the room due to less books
-Ability to do multitask reading
-Can be used without interfering with a siblings sleep
-Downloaded PDFs can be viewed on the device
-Long battery Life
-2 Year accidental damage warranty
-Powerful aid in helping your child go to sleep if they struggle
-Can be connected to a Bluetooth speaker, then read to your kids through Audible
-Can have multiple profiles
-No ads or adult related content
-1 Year free access to free time
-The kids version has exactly the same specs, a few mm larger in size but double storage space at 8GB
-You can run the kids as a normal kindle at a later date
I can't rate this product enough. It encourages reading, it's small and portable, last for weeks and offers a great 2 year warranty.
If you are reading this review, then certainly consider these points and only buy one if you want to encourage reading or enhance it.
It's not a tablet, it has no games or YouTube, its exactly what the kids need, some engaging activity, get the brain working again and you can even use this for family reading time.
There are no cons to reading I'm general and I find it hard to be critical of a device like this.
It's cheap and for this small investment it's peanuts
I will however echo one of the complaints which is the connection type. Micro USB are infamous for breaking and kids especially will end up damaging or inserting the connector the wrong way round.
Hopefully they use USB-C in the next gen
If you are worried about this though, search Amazon for magnetic micro USB cables. You can buy a cable that has a magnetic break off connector that installs into the micro USB and stays there, the other end is magnetic and connects to it and will make it much easier to use.
