Bags of fun, stretchy gel wrist holders for phones might not be everyone's thing
29 November 2018
These are some of my nephews' and brothers' favourite things ever. The recommended age for these is 8+, but its always quite hard not to include younger siblings when it comes to using a set like this: my nephews are 8 and 6. It's very difficult to age restrict a set when you have siblings close in age, who tend to do things together. One way to work with a set like this is playing in family teams. They are battery hogs, though - and perhaps worth investing in some rechargeables if you don't already have them - as each handset takes 4xAA batteries.
I have no idea why anyone would object to using these as a barebones set, without using wrist straps, phones and the app. They're still great fun - like a Nerf battle BUT with no evil little refills to keep track of (or capture, hoard, allow your enemies to deplete their stocks and then swamp them!) and potentially lose, and there's no scope for arguing over loss and victories as the weapons themselves keep track, with changing light colours to indicate when a player has exhausted their lives. The phone app extended functionality is great for older children and adult battles, but the stretchy, gelatinous-feeling material the wrist strap is made from may be an issue for some people (I hated the feel of the wrist straps, they gave me goose flesh), and the stretchy corner holders might be able to accommodate most phones, but there's no inbuilt protection and I'm not sure if these will stretch enough to hold a rugged case safely.
So much fun, I've not only bought another set after receiving these to test - I bought my sister-in-law the larger Deltaburst version to help defend against my brothers and her kids who'd been ganging up on her as an 'easy' target.
