DRIVEN-ON BY THE NEED TO TELL THE WORLD OF THE OFTEN BRUTAL TRUTH
11 June 2019
A biographical account of war-zone journalist Marie Colvin's (Rosamund Pike ) determination despite being haunted by many of the images she sees to report to the world the unacceptable truth of the conflicts she covered down the years.
The film basically starts telling of how during the Tamil-Tiger uprising in Sri Lanka, she becomes injured in a bomb blast losing her sight in one eye, this 2001.
The story goes on to tell of the time she was covering the Iraq War a few years later and her teaming up with photographer Paul Conroy ( Jamie Dornan ) who will also join her a few years on during the Libya war /uprising.
Despite her editor repeatedly advising Marie not to put herself in danger, again and again, she will ultimately without apparent regard for her own safety, along with Paul travel to Homs in Syria to report the horrors unfolding there...this would prove her final assignment.
A film, based on real events, that in my view is a must see....certainly a film that will hold your attention throughout.
