Another great DI McKay story
5 October 2018
DI Alec McKay is still shadowed by the acquittal of the suspected perpetrator from his last case, but now needs to focus on a series of garrottings, with victims from the world of washed-up entertainers.
Meanwhile, after their experiences of domestic abuse, Jane and Elizabeth have found safety in the home of benefactor Netty Munro, along with existing resident Alicia. Their lives seem perfect there, but is it all too good to be true?
I love DI McKay – his acerbic grumpiness renders him real – and I value how Alex Walters gives his female characters strong roles, while (in this novel particularly) also acknowledging their vulnerabilities and fears without making them appear weak.
