absolute nightmare; sad to report as a suunto loyalist
12 December 2018
initially my review was going to focus on the really confusing and muddled linking software between this watch and the outside world. in short, suunto seem to be phasing out the dreadful movescount for something called suunto app, which appears to be more slick but has less functionality. you can't for instance design routes on your computer and upload them; instead you have to do everything via your phone which is slow and awkward.
BUT... this issue has been superseded by the simpler fact that the watch crashed repeatedly (3 times, 1 major requiring a complete reboot) in the first day I owned it. the connectivity became a problem, simply refusing to allow me to link the watch to my phone as an additional problem.
I have never encountered such a glitch ridden piece of technology. Buying something new and then being confronted immediately by overwhelming problems, of a different nature, is really rare. I am loyal to suunto; I owned a suunto ambit2 for 4 and a half years and it was fantastic; solid with lots of great features.
I think the Spartan as I've experienced it is flawed. Even putting aside the crashed I experienced, I have had immediate misgivings about its interface. The touch screen is not smooth. The way the watch locks, the way the backlight works; so many little things I could list them for ages but I'll get bored.
Really, I need a replacement for my ambit2, but I'll have to seriously consider now switching to Garmin, because the Spartan is such a disappointment.
