I'm amazed at some of the positive reviews for this third and final series of Versailles. Admittedly the whole series wasn't great television but it was a guilty pleasure nonetheless. The first two series were right on the money. Commendable acting directing design and most importantly totty. Saying that some of the men were prettier then the women, and the women were beautiful to say the very least. I don't know how historically accurate it was, but because all the action took place within the walls of Versailles, one almost got lost in its labyrinth of corridors and the political goings on.
Sadly when they made series 3 they also said it would be the final series and it shows with the once mighty budget. The rooms have gotten smaller, as have the extras, as has the storyline. The angry masses of Paris consisted of the same 3 people walking up and down the same street wearing the same clothes throughout the series being angry. The final episode was a huge anti climax with the story such as it was with an assassination attempt on Louis. The first two series were wonderful and it's a shame they didn't go out with a bang.
