Sandis & Rone
1 January 2019
Charlie N Holmberg gives us here another exciting fantasy tale, here set in the country of Kolingrad, and the city of Dresberg this is full of action and intrigue. Here we meet eighteen year old Sandis a vessel, meaning that she is ultimately a slave whose body can be used for possession by a demonic creature, summoned by her master, Kazen.
With plans to escape as she sees what sort of experiments Kazen is carrying out, so she meets twenty-two year old Rone, a professional thief for hire and the owner of a magical device that grants him one minute of immortality every twenty four hours.
Within this bustling city a lot happens, and on its edge is the religious community, who still have some sway upon the people. Beneath all this though is the world of the occult, something apparently banned but still in use for those wishing to gain power. Taking us into this aspect of Dresberg so we read of obsession and madness, along with magic and demons, where treachery is par for the course, and betrayal never far away amongst all the corruption.
For Sandis, this relatively innocent girl has to suddenly take a steep learning curve in the world around her, but with Kazen and his minions on her trail, will she be able to escape his evil clutches? And will Rone be able to protect her as he comes up against forces, he thought were only fairy tales? This is well written and has a finish that will have you eagerly awaiting the next novel in the series, as we really get to know the two main characters here and can empathise with them.
