Great Suction and Rollers; a Couple of Minor Downsides
1 November 2018
First, the good bits - Brilliant suction - filled up the dust cup even though I'd recently done the whole house with the old vacuum.
Great rollers - they brush the carpet up nicely and propel the vacuum along which helps. Also the rollers are accessible via a flap which makes disentangling thread/string very easy.
Versatile - really manoeuvrable and easy to use the different attachments and remove the body from the wheels to do stairs, furniture etc. Fairly lightweight too compared to my old monster although still too heavy for anyone frail or weak. Also the headlight is handy and the low profile base means you can get under furniture easily. It's quite narrow which means you end up having to do more passes but also you're able to fit in between chairs etc.
The only downsides are:
Small dust container which needs emptying after every use (no big deal really and it helps keep it a nice size).
Very short lead - I have to use 4 sockets to do the house now instead of the previous 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. My house is small to average size, so I'm not asking for miles of flex, just enough to reach a whole floor. When you're choosing between cordless and corded, a decent length lead is essential. I've ordered a flex connector from Screwfix so I can extend the lead to a decent length but it's disappointing that I've had to do this. I'm deducting half a star for this.
The ball and socket connector that's supposed to attach the hose to the handle and stop it flapping about is poorly designed and doesn't click firmly enough - it comes loose and the hose ends up flailing around as you're doing the floors. I'm deducting half a star for this.
If you factor in environmental considerations when deciding on your purchases, you may like to know that this has an efficiency rating of "B" which is actually the 5th best out of 7 ratings (A+++ being the highest, followed by A++ then A+ then A B, C and finally D) but that's still less than £10 per year for the average home/usage. Also, on the subject of environmental considerations, greener customers may be disappointed by the very large amount cardboard, plastic and polystyrene that you will need to recycle after unpacking - it's more than I have experienced before with similar household goods.
Aside from these minor issues I'm really pleased.
TOP TIP. Keep an eye on the price as it fluctuates a lot. I bought mine in October 2018 for £220. Since then it's been up and down and is currently on sale for £275 (Black Friday deal, supposedly!). There are websites that track Amazon product prices for you and alert you when it drops to the level you want. Just Google "amazon product price tracker".
