Princess Swashbuckle is a swashbuckling princess-cum-pirate adventure which is wonderfully easy to read due to the imaginative use of rhyming verse. This is the tale of a frog princess who dreams of becoming a Pirate Queen and to one day sail into unchartered waters. The frog princess knows she wants more in life than to settle down with a frog prince, and sets off to be a pirate. She takes command of a pirate ship called The Stinky Fish, organising its crew and setting out to find them nice things to do. She loves helping others but misses her mum and dad too, and they of course are missing her. A very happy reunion follows and indeed everyone lives happily ever after. There’s a proper emphasis on being happy in this book and how it comes through kindness, understanding and being true to yourself and what you want in life. With delightful illustrations bursting with life this book is an excellent read and highly recommended. I read it to my one year old and she just loved it (so had to read it a few more times before reviewing it) A charming, adventurous 5⭐️ Read
This is a beautiful new book. My 2 girls (6 and 2) absolutely loved it. The illustrations are some of the best and prettiest I have seen for a long time, and the story is fantastic too. Lot's of humour, and lots to look at in future readings of which I think there will be many! Great job, look forward to more from Holly Hughes.
I read Princess Swashbuckle to my twin daughters and I throughly enjoyed reading it to them. I loved the rhyming of the sentences and the story held their attention. I would recommend this book as it’s not a ‘run of the mill’ children’s book there is actually a Moral to the story
