The horn is an underrated solo instrument, despite Mozart and Strauss, and this cd proves that there are excellent concertos by other composers which deserve a place in the repertoire. These pre-Mozart concertos are rarely performed in public because of their technical difficulties (just listen to the Neruda!) but they are an absolute delight. Alec Frank-Gemmill plays them beautifully and seemingly without effort and is partnered sympathetically by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. A brilliant recording!
