As a hard core Herron addict, I jumped on this and was massively satisfied.
The ‘novella’ is a difficult art. You have to be so precise and the writing has to be as tight as a duck’s proverbial.
Herron scores on both counts. John Bachelor, the main protagonist, is a character to die for. This is his second outing (the first being ‘The List’) and I find him a fabulous creation. The concept of an MI5 agent, on his uppers, blundering into a scenario whereby a German triple is going to be transplanted into the department for exiting the EU is just genius.
I lapped it up. Boy oh boy can this man write. Bravo for Britain’s finest.
