See that backstop? It’s got millimetres of metal holding your bottle square. I had to clamp large blocks of wood in place to stop the cut line from wandering... but eventually - I split my first bottle. My most recent and successful split was a port bottle. I “almost” got the glass cutting line to meet (no thanks to the weak metal restraint) I kept the cork stopper in and heated the joint up with BOILING water straight from the kettle. I plunged it into cold water (I’ve also learnt to give the neck a tap underwater). The whole neck cracked off at the score mark. I believe that keeping the cork in created some pressure inside the bottle because “Pow”!! When it went.... it went.... 👍. If you’re fairly handy, you’ll work out a way to make this better, but out of the box, it’s fairly flawed!.
