The dayz ahead
26 March 2018
Writing zompocfic set in the UK must be a tough call.
Few guns in private hands.
No wide open spaces
No survivalist culture.
And yet, Shaun Whittington writes a tight narrative with convincingly complex British characters.
These are people you recognize (if you're a UK reader - sorry US friends).
You might avoid them, be ashamed of them, admire or despise them.
But you know them.
Much of the dialogue is hardcore.
Worse than F-bombs? Check.
This is the worst of times, after all.
Sometimes, it seems as if the zombs have joined hands with the worst representatives of humanity.
And the survivors are more likely to survive extinction at the hands of the living.
Not the dead.
Not a million miles away from "The Walking Dead" territory.
Read this in one sitting, if you can.
Then read Shaun Whittington's other zompoc.
Go on, lose yourself.
Then pick yourself up, on the way out.
