Sloppy screen writing through and through
15 September 2018
After seeing the badly written ending to Season 1, we decided to give this series another chance. We were hoping that Season 2 might be better, but unfortunately it started going downhill already in episode 2, and from then went on to reach new depths of mediocrity.
The central idea outlined in the first episode is intriguing: a serial killer who fills a bus with the frozen bodies of his victims.
The way the story unfolds, however, is littered with plot holes, continuity flaws and situations that are completely unrealistic. For instance: a detective walks in and out of a mental asylum several times, talks to patients, even leaves the institution with a patient, without ever being questioned or checked by any of the nurses and caretakers. At one point, the patient does not return for two days and apparently nobody notices her absence... There are too many examples to mention here.
The main character, a woman police detective known for her attention to detail and her intelligence, makes one stupid decision after another, getting into trouble every time. It gets to a point where you actually hope for the villain to kill her and put us out of our misery.
Save your money: buy a different series. If you want to see good French thrillers, "The Disappearance" and "The Bureau" are both much, much better than Witnesses Season 2.
