So, when the phone arrived, I was really impressed by its functionality for the price.
Pros: It works well in the cold, way better than an iPhone. Doesnt die when you pull it out on a cold winter day.
Battery life is actually good. Double the battery life of any other smartphone I have owned, e.g. Sony and Apple.
Sturdy. Heavy, strong chassis.
It runs any android apps you would ever want it to run. It does really well there.
Volume down button malfunction in less than a year has bricked the phone so it is now useless. Every time it turns on it thinks I have pressed the volume down button, which means it boots in to factory mode, meaning the phone cannot function.
Loudspeaker. It doesnt work well when you use loudspeaker, the other caller can hear their voice really clearly so it is really annoying to them when they try to speak to you. It really makes it difficult for them to speak.
Camera. The camera focuses, everything looks fine, then when you press the take photo button, it freaks out, throws itself out of focus, tries to refocus and has a huge delay, meaning you often miss the shot. The software to run the camera is really poor. Why does it focus, then refocus when it has already done the job? Most of your photos when you first get it will be blurry and out of focus.
Photo format and data usage. The way the photos are saved from the camera are inexplicably huge. So when you try to send them via an email, theyre often too big to send. If you try to send them on whatsapp, expect them to munch through your data more quickly. When I take photos of my receipts for work, I can't put them all in an email, but if I did that with a Sony or an iPhone, that'd be mega easy. It has really made me look a moron at work because I struggle to send all my receipts in one email. I have to spend time converting the files. Even if you turn down the settings, it gets really pixelated and the file sizes are still huge. It isnt a problem with me taking too high quality photos, its a problem with the way the camera saves the photos and what format it saves them in to.
Overheating. This phone LOVES to overheat. If you are on a video call and put it on charge, it'll overheat. If you are watching netflix and put it on charge, it'll overheat.
More overheating. If your phone is in hot weather, it'll crash or tell you to remove the battery immediately (which you can't, it's sealed inside the phone) so any sunny weather and you are unable to use it.
The cable. It takes a unique 'extended reach' USB-C cable, which only blackview manufacture. Normal USB type C cables dont do the job. That means that you have to pay a fortune for the cable, because Blackview are ripping you off to buy their special cable. The phone only comes with a single cable, so if you want a charger at work or in your car, you cant just use one of your many other USB cables you already have, you have to order a special one that is very overpriced.
Overall: This phone has been disappointing. I thought I was saving money by buying a tough, affordable phone. However, this phone has died so soon that I may as well gone in for a far more expensive phone that I thought would last longer.
If like me you use your phone as your office a little, I'm sorry but this phone isn't for you. Taking photos of receipts is clunky, the camera is terrible. You would be better off buying an older phone from a more reputable manufacturer and using that.
Would I recommend you buy it? No. Would I buy it again? No. Do I regret buying this phone? Yes. Is it worth the money? If it didnt break so soon and didnt overheat constantly, and if the camera worked like every other camera on every other modern smartphone, I would have loved it.
