Defective product and not new - shame Amazon! it would be very good in parts though has limitations for some athletes.

I think there are two issues here:
1. The watch was clearly not new. The box was worn at the corners. It was sellotaped up. The watch did not have a protective cover on the screen. I am shocked as this was sold through Amazon and not a third party supplier. It makes me call into question the advantages of paying that little extra to purchase through Amazon. The watch was defective with a wrist HR that generated random numbers. It also could not record power from my Stryd reliably, alternating between 0 power and the real reading so could see the power envelope but any calculations of average power were invalid. I suspect it has been bouncing back and forth for some time. Amazon just needs to send it back to Suunto to be fixed or replaced.
2. If the watch functioned as expected, I think it would be a very useful training tool. The native support for Stryd with clear circumferential power zone indicator was excellent. The end of run stats including graphs, PTE, EPOC are very good. The online customisation of training views is a little clunky and custom views seem far more limited than the predefined ones. I could not see how to include graphs. Unfortunately although the watch supports interval training it does not properly support multiple phases of training constrained by HR or power (c.f. Polar M430, V800). It is not possible to create your own as it does not support apps. Both these were features on the Suunto Ambit 3. Strange that this device is in some ways less capable than its predecessor.
