I was very reluctant to buy this due to the price - however I saw it on special offer with £100 off so took the plunge after being assured I could return it for free if needed.
The package arrived in a huge box, which was a little damaged but nothing major. The chair came in four 'parts' - the base, gas lift, chair itself and then the wheels. It was very easy to assemble.
I inspected the chair carefully and found there was a few minor issues which hopefully Vertagear will take note of and improve their quality control - mainly paint chippings around some of the bolt holes and where the frame is welded. Thankfully it does not affect performance and not too noticeable unless pointed out.
I saw some reviews about 'pinching' on the back of knees - this has not happened to me and the support under the knee seems very comfortable, with no pins and needles which was the main reason for getting rid of my old chair. I use this for gaming and working, so can often be seated for many hours at a time.
Seat performance The mesh allows for great airflow and is very comfortable to sit in. It appears well made and the ten year warranty gives confidence that this will last a very long time. The seat itself can be adjusted along the horizontal to give a deeper seating area and the chair travels up and down on the vertical with the gas lift (trigger controlled). It fits under my desk comfortably.
Back support the lumbar support can be moved vertically and the back of the chair moves horizontally to give good control over the amount of support you need. I have found it very comfortable and it has improved posture. the back support can be adjusted using the trigger on the left whilst the handle underneath the chair controls the amount of resistance to the backrest.
Headrest the SE version came with the new upgraded headrest which contains coffee grounds and silver. It will apparently helpd to absorb any odors and the silver gives it anti bacterial properties. It is adjustable in height, angle, depth and locks in place quite well. It is quite comfortable.
Armrests Fine but not the best - they pivot left and right but do not slide back and forth. I don't really use them. The material is hard with a small amount of sponginess. I would have liked them to adjust back and forth. they have about 5 height settings but it is easy to lift them too high so they reset.
Wheels Very smooth and they glide easily with hardly any sound. They look brilliant. The wheels have latches for fixing them in place. If they are locked the little plastic locks will 'ping' off if enough pressure is applied and they can be difficult to lock in place - but easy enough to re-attach.
Triggers These do seem a bit of a gimmick. You will likely spend 30 minutes initially fine tuning the chair and then never use them again. The left trigger controls the backrest and locks it in place, the right controls the gas lift. they are a cool design and much better than having them under the chair but not the main selling point in my view.
Look & feel This thing looks amazing. It looks expensive, feels expensive and is a pleasure to use. the mesh looks very durable so it won't look tatty after 6 months. Be sure to take care of the leather correctly, which is extremely soft and of high quality and it will not show signs of age.
Overall This is an excellent chair. I initially bought it with the intention of trying it out for a month then either keeping it or returning it. I will be keeping this chair and hopefully it will last a good 10+ years, which really makes the price seem worth it.
At first, I thought £629 was far too high for a chair, but after a lot of thought -- it's a great investment, considering I spend most of my time sat on an office chair. It also comes with a 10yr warranty.
I wouldn't personally call this a gaming chair, more a stylish and very modern office chair (which you could also game on). My office is also my gaming space, so it's the perfect solution.
It looks amazing, it's built like a tank, and is very comfortable.
I had such high hopes with this chair as I wanted something that wasn't geared towards your typical gamer chair. This is a comfortable chair to sit in and the adjust-ability offered is nice.
Right off the bat the arm rests are at uneven heights when on the same settings. One arm is higher than the other. Under a year of ownership and the ratchet mechanism to adjust the arms, one of them has failed.
After contacting Vertagear about this issue they arranged collection of the chair. I recieved a message from Vertagear it would be collected sometime in the next few days this was provided late at night which gave me no time to prepair the chair. Complications arose as I was unable to get the chair apart; unable to box the chair I had to refuse collection by DPD who arrived the next morning after the email to collect. Their email support is slow and their phone support is only open past 5pm BST.
After a week of waiting inside and calling them to arrange collection there has been no progress. I would strongly recommend against this chair purely on the off chance it breaks. Buy something cheaper and replace every few years.
