An extraordinary series, extremely heart-warming and also very amusing, the adventures of Mortimer the raven and his owner, the feisty blonde Arabel, were rather undersold by the BBC when they first appeared. Based on some stories that featured on 'Jackanory' - if my memory serves me correctly - the characters are rather delightful puppets based on Quentin Blake illustrations (and that's no mean feat, either!) Some great sets and props, combined with good quality writing which never patronises, and some great characters make this worth having. I don't think it will date. It hasn't so far. I'd love to own it on DVD, but this is the next best thing - and dammit it's better than 'Thunderbirds'. Happy Spooky Christmas!
I remember watching this fantastic series as a child and around six years ago I first tried to find the Christmas episodes. I am overjoyed they are now available to buy! My old VHS from '94 only has half of one episode, and it's nearly fallen apart from the number of times we've watched it! The perfect Christmas gift :)
The perfect Christmas story! Mortimer and Arabel in a hilarious adventure with snow, ghosts, hidden treasure and exploding plum puddings. Join the Jones family and their madcap raven Mortimer again in the return of these heartwarming adventures in a made for BBC puppet series based on Joan Aiken's stories and Quentin Blake's drawings.
