High Street and Online warranty is different, for the same product...!!
28 September 2017
I purchased the Dirt Boot in December 2016, and enjoyed many a happy day walking through wet, marshy ground, remaining completely dry.
The fit was excellent, the sole good and strong, great boots. However, 9 months down the road I am disappointed to find them no longer watertight. The leak may well have started last month, but I probably put that down to sweat.
After contacting the supplier, the reply was: 'Sorry to hear your boots have started to leak, these items carry a six-month warranty however you may find a local cobbler Timpsons or similar might be able to help on the high street.'
In my ignorance, I thought everything came with a 12-month warranty; the next reply was: '6 months online and 12 months on high street, electrical goods are different though.' This got me thinking...
If I bought these in the high street (maybe at a higher price?) they would have been good for 12 months, but the very same boots online would only be held to a 6-month warranty. That does seem a bit strange, unless... the online product is of a lesser quality – yet sold under the same name!
Hence, because of the apparent differing quality standards - applied to the same product?? – the supplier is in somewhat of a cleft stick; on the one hand their product is warranted for 12 months, on the other hand, only 6. Is there a more rational explanation for double standards applied to the same product? Strange indeed.
