Failed to feel the nostalgia or enjoy the racing.

I loved this series during its time on PlayStation 1, and my brother and I bought this remaster hoping to rinse it online. We played it perhaps twice. The truth is, once you’re about 30 metres ahead of the other player(s), the chasers are relying on a mistake from the leader in order to catch up, unless you’re in a superior vehicle, which is an unfulfilling reason to win a race, of course. I don’t know whether this was the case 2 decades ago and it was more satisfactory in that era of gaming or whether this is a consequence of some meddling.
It’s also a game that needed its single-player experience to be reassembled into one singular career or campaign mode, in my view, consisting of all the game’s racetracks and vehicle. I haven’t judged other remasters (like Vicarious Visions’ sharpened rerelease of Naughty Dog’s Crash games) for failing to do this, but I feel it would have made for a better experience with regards to this a combat-racing game.
At the time of writing, I have not played the game since the week I bought it.
