I’ve been looking to replace my bike Sat Nav for a while now. Didn’t want to be paying out close to £400 though. Came across the TomTom Vio and was intrigued. Very small and neat and looked ideal. Compared to other TomToms also a good price. The unit arrived the next day. Very easy to set up and mount although the handle bar mount didn’t actually fit my handle bars. They don’t specify the handle bar size anywhere so you don’t know until you get it. I used the mirror mount instead which was simple enough. So now where did it all go wrong? Well first of all the app for IOS is seriously lacking in terms of functions. You can’t do much other than navigate from A to B. You can’t set petrol stops entoute for example. The traffic updates looked good. The Android app apparently is much better and has the extra functions you’d expect. Read a lot about people having disconnection problems but saw that since those reviews the app had been updated to address the issue. However mine keeps disconnecting roughly every 20 minutes. Read through the app updates and nothing for over a year? I contacted TomTom support and they said to just close down the app and reopen it? This means I have to stop every 20 minutes on the road just to sort the app out? Other than that no other fix. Absolutely gutted because the unit and the concept I like a lot. Just get a feeling this is actually a dead product with TomTom. Doesn’t seem a lot of UK info. Seems very popular in Italy and that part of the world. As things stand the unit is not fit for purpose with me. Now contacting Amazon to send it back. Looks like I’m going to have spend out on another system. TomTom Vio not recommended at all.
Having bought this at £113 I think this is a bargain. Sadly they sacked the price up to £140+ within a day of my purchase. You can get the same Vio from the same company through Amazon but priced around £135. Strange. The Tom Tom Vio does exactly my what it says. It's a small device that doesn't look out of place on my Ducati Scrambler Icon. In fact it almost looks like it was made for it. I haven't played around to much with it but I hope I can change the cartoon moped startup on the display. You need to install the Tom Tom Vio app and have it running, it runs in the background. That's it. Use the app to set directions etc, easy. The only major problem I found was with mounting. It completely inflexible. This is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars for this product...No I lie. Delivery was a joke. I'm a prime member and this was a prime sale at the time. I should have had it the next day, it took most of a week. Very frustrating. Amazon did compensate me a little but I would have preferred to have the item on time.
This device is no use if you are going for more than 10 mins or so, the app consistently crashes on the iPhone so you have to restart the app which means you have to pull over. You are better off spending your money on an external battery / power bank supply for your phone as 1/4 of the price and maybe a waterproof case. It is no wonder you do not see the food delivery drivers using this thing. I am a gutted really, waste of £100+. Oh, it needs your phone also, so it is just a screen extension for your phone really, tethered by Bluetooth, most unreliable app on the iPhone for sure.
