Six made for TV Crime Movies from Sweden.

This is a great value DVD in that we get a full six feature length episodes of a rather good crime thriller. It is all about Erika Falck who is a crime writer and lives in Fjällbacka with her cop husband. There are only three officers here by the way so we are not talking a sprawling metropolis. The first episode (which was my favourite) is linked to events from World War II and the traitors that fought for the enemy and how the crimes of the past can be linked with the crimes of today.
The theme of the past being linked to the future are constants throughout all the episodes. The re – enactments of the past are all done really well and often segue with ‘the present’ seamlessly. There are many themes going on here including the original coast guard called ‘Coast Riders’, a beauty queen of sorts, French scuba divers and even the Antiques Roadshow (which was the first one made but appears here as the sixth).
It is all acted really well and has a feel of ‘Murder She Wrote’ meets ‘Midsomers Murders’ and for such a small town you do start to wonder how the tiny police department manage not to go mad at the crime wave they have to face, but that is just me being practical. I really enjoyed these but watched them one a night over a week. These are also not like a box set that gets you hooked and becomes addictive, as you have a completely new plot in every episode. If you like your Nordic Noir this will be one you will want to see.
