My D800 sensor is now as clean as brand new
on 18 April 2017
After having cleaned my D800 sensor only with air for five (!) years, some small spots had accumulated which would not budge. Very stupidly, I tried to shift them with a small, clean, soft brush.
Bad idea! Those spots were not dust but the lubrication oil Nikon is infamous for, so I was left with smears that were much worse than the few spots.
Time to get the best possible sensor cleaning kit, and as always I decided that from Amazon reviews. I was not disappointed. It took 6 swabs, but my sensor is now as clean as the day I got the camera. Very pleased - worth 5 stars.
But one criticism, hence only 4 stars: The cleaning fluid bottle needs improving. It is difficult to measure out precisely two drops, and one of my swabs got too wet, leaving more smears, which meant I had to do two extra swabs. Why not use an eye-drop type bottle?
