Excellent- easy to read but with a serious message
on 4 March 2017
I found this book at a really useful time in my life. I have a young family and a job that requires a great deal of emotional investment, as well as extra academic studies. It is so easy to forget about "number 1" when working in this area. I have seen it happen to so many colleagues. However, we could all learn a lot from this book.
I read it cover to cover but have planned to re-look at it every month or so. Not necessarily to read cover to cover every month but just keep the importance of this topic at the front of my mind as it's such an easy thing to neglect. Rather, I may even go further and say unless we consciously keep this topic at the front of our minds- neglecting ourselves is almost an inevitable consequence.
None of us are any good to anyone unless we are "fighting fit" as best we can. We are no good to anyone- our families or at work/ if we are constantly stressed or unhappy. That's why it is not selfish at all to "look after number 1". Your family, friends and even your work will thank you for it.
