Need weights - the band is not working for me.

I have done PiYo before and am looking to work my way up to P90X. I thought I would need to gain some strength before doing this so got Chalean Extreme just because I like Chalene Johnson. She's a great motivator and the DVDs are good. She gives good form cues and the exercises are certainly challenging.
I have not done weights before so needed to watch the 'basics' DVD to make sure my form is good. I purchased this set as it comes with a resistance band and it says you can use the band instead of weights. This is true BUT you need to know how to work the band. Yes, there is a modifier person always showing how to use the band and there is also a 'band basics' section on one DVD showing you all the moves. The problem I have with the basics demonstration is that it moves far too quickly. I had to stop and pause, play back A LOT! And even than I still struggled with the band. For me, the band is not working out so I have to use weights. That's probably my main issue with it - that the advertised band could be explained in more detail and more time taken. Beginners to intermediate are less likely to have a full set of weights (especially heavy weights) at home.
Is it working and do I see results - too early for me to say but I enjoy the exercises and I have seen great results from PiYo so am hopeful this program will also deliver. The high intensity workouts that are included are great! After the first one I was dead to the world!
