Well worth it! Clean an easy to use.. The only thing i would mention is to get your Settings and timings correct.. Some suggested settings are over the real time you would need.. So check the Food frequently. ie: chips, if they are small Fries they would need less than the chunky chips... othrwise the items will dry up and go rock hard, and become inedible.
I have been a massive fan of the Actifry. It was part of my job to demonstrate how to use them, give samples of the food I cooked using the Actifry, but the paddle on my personal Actifry in my home broke after five years of being used, and I thought I would get a new one.
This is not an Acrifry. This is a halogen oven with a nice amount of extra functions.
I was drawn to this Klarstein VitAir when I noticed it had a 9-litre cooking space, I was like how many curly frys can I fit in it!!!!!!! I was a bit put off as I am used to using the Actfry and just open the bag of what ever I am cooking, pour the food in and then close the lid and set the timer. This Klarstein VitAir doesn't have the turning paddle and the instructions are not easy to understand and they don't explain much.
Ok, so once I had got over this issue of mine that I wanted this to work just like my old Actfry, I needed to understand how this was going to work.
This is a very large machine, it is tall and wide. Bigger than I thought it would be, so this is too tall to fit in the cupboard, too heavy to place on top of the wall units. Going to have to live on the kitchen table when not in use. I will put it on the cooker top while using it.
The lid had a powerful hinge, which needs to be carefully brought down so it doesn't slam shut. The lid also needs to be pushed upright to make sure it doesn't fall down.
There is a UK plug, I think it has a univerisal adapter so depending on where in the world this is going to be sold all the manifactors have to do is change the plug which clicks into place.
Whats in the box: Klarstein VitAir with a 1400W halogen infrared heating element Inside the machine is a non stick removable bowl Metal round plate - like a cake tin/ pie dish Grill - this is a raised grill, round with long legs. Chicken skewer 3D grill cage - this is where your chips go. A tongs - you use these to remove the accessories as the pieces are very hot.
You can buy extra accessories: steamer (10012342), steak-cage (10012343), skewer rotator (10012344). I think I will order the skewer rotator for making kebab sticks.
The machine has manual and automatic settings. At first they seemed scary but it took us only a few minuites to work them out. You can change the temputure by pressing the buttons either side of the top tempture reading. You can change the time by pressing the buttons either side of the lower reading. We had bagels and placed them on top of the grill, we fitted two bagels which had been sliced in half and covered with our chosen filling and topped with cheese. We selected the pizza setting and reduced the time from 15 min to 6 mins.
You can download the user manual from the companys website.
I feel that this device was excellenty packaged, well designed packaging, excellent machine which has been let down, in my eyes by the lack of instructions, where I am unable to found out how to put the rotating 3D cage/ baking rack into place. The instructions change the name of the items so it is missing consistencey with the termology, for someone with dyslexia it is hard to follow.
A few explantations of each of the accessories and some recipes would have been nice.
I will come back to my review once I have some curly frys spinning in the 3d cage.
