Update after 4 months - Useless as Wellies
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2019
Update: February 2020 - Had these wellies 4 months now. Downrated to one star. The right wellie started leaking on the inside of the sole/upper join about 3 weeks ago and the heel inside is collapsing. The sole has gone ultra soft with little support. Pity as they were comfy.
Having only just bought these and been for my first very wet and muddy walk with Suki dog, this review doesn't address longevity. If they spring leaks or come apart prematurely I'll update this review.
I'm an avergae UK 9 with the left foot being my larger. This morning I have 2 pairs of cotton socks on (Pringle, so probably slightly thicker than average cotton) and the boots are a very snug fit, the left being that bit tighter than the right foot. They are not at all sloppy on my feet which is a nice suprise for wellies. My calves and legs are reasonably slim (I'm 6 ft and slim) and with long trousers the boots are a snug fit. So I don't suggest buying a bigger or smaller size than your normal shoe size.
The outer material and sole are very supple and pliable which aids grip and comfort, but like car tyres softness usually equates to faster wear, especially on hard surfaces.
The sole inside is lined with what I assume is neoprene with an inner sole insert on top of that, making the sole very cushioning and comfy. (Even without the inner sole). The inner sole could easily be replaced as it wears or to one of your choice.
The boots grip well in the mud (anything would seem to, I suppose, after my now equivalent of slicks on my worn out Muck Edgewaters:-) ) and this morning didn't leak, having made sure I walked around puddles past my ankles.
The Muck's, which were bought as a present lasted 18 months, but the inner split at the heel making them feel huge and quite rough around the inside of the heel and the soles/heel wore through (small holes), but to be fair they didn't leak. Given that the Muck's were only worn really during the winter months, I thought 100 quid plus is steep for wellies, but do enjoy the comfort over bog standard Dunlops.
First impressions - good snug fit, pliable, god grip in mud and very comfortable.
We'll see how these Dirt Boot Wellies stand up to mud, water and long walks over time.
