How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsWorks fine with Linux Mint 21
Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on 19 June 2023
I don't intend printing a lot (which if why I replaced a troublesome inkjet with a basic laser printer) so I can only give my impression from initial usage. It was easy to insert the toner cartridge and connect up a USB printer cable I already had (none supplied). For Linux I tried initially to use a generic CUPS driver but that didn't work. However, the manufacturer's website has drivers for Linux and the two files I downloaded work together on my 64-bit distro.

I was able to print out a text file and also some scanned text with a little graphics from a PDF file. Some reviewers say you can't print a PDF file due to the printer only having 1 MB of memory. If it causes difficulty, I suggest sending one page at a time to the printer (even though the whole document is multiple MBs, a single page will be a fraction of that). Compression of the PDF file is another option. There are websites which will do that for you. On Linux you can use the ghostscript utility and specify a lower resolution output (e.g. ebook = 150 dpi).

3.0 out of 5 starsDid not have the USB Cable
Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on 24 May 2023
I recently purchased this printer and was disappointed to discover that it did not come with a USB cable. It would have been helpful if there had been a warning or an option to purchase an additional USB cable alongside the printer. Not having the necessary cable makes it difficult to connect the printer to my computer and send print jobs. I believe including the cable in the package would greatly enhance the overall user experience. I hope this feedback can be taken into consideration for future product listings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great laser printer
Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on 29 June 2023

This came recommended in a review of desktop mono printers. Does the job well. It also has apps for phone connectivity which is handy, I often find I want to print something off the phone.
Two things I'd like to improve it would be: better wireless setup, it just would not pair using WPS and needed a usb cable (not bad but I had to go looking for one in 'the drawer'), setup was a breeze with the cable and they do recommend using a cable to be fair. The second thing was a backlit screen, it's difficult to see it unless you're standing directly above it, I've got mine further back on the desk and cannot read the screen without using a light, mind you, you don't need to look at it much at all once it's all set up. I'm still glad I bought it as it prints really nicely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic wireless laser printer

I bought this laser printer for occasional home use for black and white printing and/or scanning of important documents from Apple devices over WiFi.
It is fully wireless and was easy to set up using WPS. I didn't need to move the printer near the router.
Smart look in grey and charcoal. Easy to insert/remove the large ink cartridge (one supplied with the printer). It feels like a basic quality similar to the home office inkjet printers I have used in the past.
It is in sleep mode most of the time but wakes up quickly when I need to print.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loder than expected; A4 paper sticks out the front
Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on 3 March 2023
Style Name: DCP-1610WConfiguration: Print/Copy/ScanVerified Purchase
The paper sticks out the front. There is a danger of items being pulled into the printer if this is not checked before you start printing each time. A simple cover (even one of cardboard) might be a solution. The printer was a bit louder than I expected. Setting up the password for the WiFi is a bit tedious, stepping through every letter of the alphabet with the up/down key. Overall, my sister is happy now that it is up and running.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent printer but footprint larger than expected
Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on 17 December 2021
Style Name: DCP-1610WConfiguration: Print/Copy/ScanVerified Purchase
I bought this for my sons room so that he could print his school work instead on of using my Brother inkjet printer all the time. The Brother Laser Printer is quite cheap for a printer and the replacement toner cartridges are a good price.

BUILD QUALITY
The printer is quite light for a laser printer - I could lift the box with one hand. It is quite sturdy and has a single paper feed that can hold up to 100 sheets at a time. The paper input protrudes out from the front of the printer by a good 4 inches so make sure you have enough desk space as it is larger than the measurements given in the photos.

SETUP
Remove all the protective retainers and film/tape. The printer comes with a supplied toner cartridge which is straightforward to fit

As this is a wireless printer the setup is very easy. I used the menu on the printer to set it up and took all of 2 mins. Once connected it will print out a sheet providing details of the connection.

Inserting the paper was more fiddly than I expected and the first couple of sheets printed at an angle. But with a little correction this was easily sorted.

PRINT QUALITY
I printed a photo from my phone and this printed in decent black and white. The printer is able to print 20 pages per minute of edge to edge printing which is quite fast - but fine do what we need.

NOISE
The printer was noisier than in expected, certainly more noisy than my inkjet printer. In sleep mode there is obviously no noise.

OVERALL
Do be aware of the size - although printer itself is quite small - with the paper loaded the printer takes up more space. Nevertheless, this is a decent printer for the price.

Drivers were slightly hard to find on the website but after that, set up was easy and seems like a good printer for the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Work well and easy to set up

The printer was very easy to set up on WiFi and works well for all my family on their mobile phones. The only negative is that it is noisy when printing but I was aware of that when I bought it and I don’t print too often in general.

This is a basic printer and it does that job fine. However, the software is perhaps overly complicated for such a basic machine. Tunes out you need to download another piece of software if you want to change the sleep mode settings. Annoying.
