Serre was attacked by Kitchener's Army on the first day of the Somme and was never captured during the entire battle, being abandoned by the Germans during spring 1917.
Many of the famous Pals battalions were destroyed here, and this book is a testimony to their sad losses.
Covers a lot fo the actions on July 1st and November 13th 1916 when further attempts to capture Serre failed miserably.
Great pictures and maps. Also numerous recommended tours for the first time visitor.
This is an excellent buy.

I cannot praise this book enough. It surpassed my expectations. Written in a very easy to read manner, it gives a very detailed account of the first world war around Serre. Filled with many maps, photographs and plans it is another great read from the publishers of this series. The authors also detail battlefield walks you can take on foot or by car and give useful information on staying in the area.
