Brainstorm never disappoint. All their albums have something to offer, but "Firesoul" manages to unite all the best elements of their past work while pushing the band onward into unfamiliar territory. As usual, the band is led by soaring vocalist Andy B. Franck, who has one of the finest voices in metal today. This is still the same guitar-driven power metal you expect from the Germans but this material is more mature, thought-out, and involving than that found on their last disc, "On The Spur Of The Moment'". In places, this harks back to "Soul Temptation"; the choirs are there, the uplifting choruses, the dark, tortured lyrics. But there are better melodies to be found, more despondent soul-searching in tunes like "And I Wonder" and the glorious "Recall The Real". In all, this is one of the best melodic metal albums you'll buy this year, a must-have for power metal fans. Recommended.
