As has been noted by other reviewers , this is a well written and highly readable account of the author's journey half way round the world , mainly by rail . What I enjoyed was that he was not slumming it . Staying at mainly good to better hotels , travelling gold class for preference and actually taking some time to stay at various stopovers . Yes That is how I would prefer to travel !! So why 4 star ? Well the author is a perfessonal righter aint he , so wy cant he get his just deserts and I hope I'm not struk by lightening for dropin him a star . A good editor should have spotted these oft repeated blunders .
Love the no-gimmick approach to this journey as the author writes about his adventure by rail as it is.....a real travel experience. A journey overland that captures a feel for places and people. Its no mean feat to travel half the way round the world (mainly) by rail ......when is the next half of the world book to be published?!
A relaxing read and interesting to read someone else`s take on places we've visited. Really enjoyable. But, as always, in places the grammar, spelling and punctuation is awful. Does anyone ever proofread books typed for Kindle?
I loved the down to earth style of writing and finding out about all the places the writer visited. I would recommend this to anyone considering travelling to Austrailia if they are looking for an alternative and enriched experience.
