Great songs but disappointing CD
on 2 November 2014
Before I start, this is my opinion, so don't kill me if you disagree, guys!
My introduction to Blancmange was through their song "Living on the Ceiling", which I really love. I had listened to it many times before buying "Happy Families Too...The Story So Far...". As soon as I played this particular CD, however, I was slightly disappointed. Why? Two reasons:
1) Living on the Ceiling was roughly 20 seconds shorter than the version I had listened to; more specifically, part of the introduction music was shorter
2) The version I had listened to sounded more "echoey", for lack of a better word, and louder. It had more punch/impact. This version sounded a little muffled/muted.
I then did a little research and discovered that this new release had been re-recorded and was a re-interpretation using more modern instruments as opposed to classic retro ones, which I assume is the cause of the muffled sound (I am not a music expert, so please correct me on anything I've said wrong).
The songs themselves and the rhythm etc are excellent otherwise but I would prefer if the original album was re-released as it was but with "cleaner sound" etc. For now, I'll make do with my Blancmange Platinum Collection, which is one of the older releases.
